Pasha Celebrates Two Million Vehicles Processed at San Diego Facility
Tuesday, December 14, 2004Corte Madera, CA-- The Pasha Group, a leading global transportation and logistics provider, today announced it has processed its two millionth vehicle at its state-of-the-art automotive terminal operation facility at the Port of San Diego in National City. Since the inception of its port automotive operations in 1990, Pasha's operation has grown significantly, in some years processing more than 300,000 vehicles annually. Pasha provides automotive processing services for Honda, Volkswagen, Bentley, Porsche, Audi, Isuzu, Mitsubishi-Fuso, GM, Lotus and Morgan, among others.
"We reached one million vehicles in 10 years, and two million vehicles just four years later," said George Pasha IV, president and COO of The Pasha Group, headquartered in Corte Madera, CA. "Contributing greatly to our success is our longstanding partnership with the Port of San Diego, National City, organized labor and BNSF. We look forward to continuing to deliver high-quality service to our automotive clientele."
The Pasha automotive terminal operation occupies 135 acres with more than 350,000 square feet of post-production facilities where factory-trained mechanics install accessories and prepare vehicles to be dealer-ready. The facility has 120 rail car positions where BNSF easily accommodates vehicles for transportation to dealers.
The Pasha facility has become a gateway for manufacturers to bring vehicles to the U.S and then distribute them to dealers throughout the U.S. Pasha began processing vehicles in the 1940's and opened the National City Terminal in 1990. The company recently signed contracts with Bentley, Lotus and Morgan to process and distribute these high-end vehicles.
"The Port's largest customer, Pasha has attracted important business to our region. Pasha is committed to making San Diego a key point of entry for automotive manufacturers, and we commend their success," said Jess E. Van Deventer, Port Commissioner representing the City of National City.
Pasha has significant long-term agreements with dockworkers' unions, and on any day, it employs about 500 people at this facility. As part of the agreement, union mechanics receive factory training that allows them to perform factory-authorized paint and body repair, accessory installations and other services.
ISO 9001 certified, the Pasha facility has 4,300 linear feet of berthing, which allows simultaneous discharging for up to five vessels, improving unloading efficiencies for the cargo. Pasha's stevedoring division provides stevedoring for all vessels at the facility.
Pasha also operates auto processing and distribution facilities in Carson, Calif., that includes 40,000 square feet of warehousing and 3.5 acres of vehicle parking and truckloading; an 8-acre facility adjacent to the Port of Baltimore; rail ramp and distribution facilities in Nashville, Tenn., Jackson, Miss., and Birmingham, Lincoln and Vance, Alabama which are a joint venture with Alaplex Transportation Inc. Pasha also operates a vehicle processing facility in Southampton, England.
