Ship of the Year
Tuesday, November 1, 2005Corte Madera, CA -- Calling her "One of a Kind," Professional Mariner has chosen the Jean Anne as "Ship of the Year" and prominently featured her in its 2005 annual supplement, "American Ship Review."
Founded in 1993, the Professional Mariner is a respected publication providing articles of interest aimed primarily at those people who make their living on a vessel - pilots, tug boat operators, engineers, or anyone working in the maritime industry. The "American Ship Review" was first published as a special edition in 1998 and has since gained its own reputation in the maritime publishing industry. In addition to being an advocate for U.S. shipbuilding and the protection of U.S. shipyards, Professional Mariner also places a strong emphasis on safety and other issues of importance in shaping the maritime industry.
During the year, Professional Mariner tracks and gathers information on as many as 10 to 15 U.S. built ships. Joining the ranks of these cream-of-the-crop vessels is a significant honor for the Jean Anne and for Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines. As the first modern Pure Car/Truck Carrier (PCTC) constructed to meet the special requirements of the Jones Act, the Jean Anne joins an elite group of U.S. flag ships. Since her inaugural voyage in March 2005, she has brought a new and competitive life to the Hawaii/West Coast trade lanes and viability to the Jones Act.
Following this much-appreciated recognition of the Jean Anne by Professional Mariner, George Pasha, IV, president of Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines, was invited to speak at the Marine Money Forum at the Harvard Club in New York City. The focus of the forum was "Recent Success Stories in the U.S. Flag." Receiving this tribute as "Ship of the Year" is visible proof of just such a success.
